Service description:
The consultant should ideally have knowledge of:
data mining,
data processing, e.g., VBA, Excel, R, Python,
data visualization, e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, and
economic dispatch tools, e.g., ANTARES, PyPSA.
The consultant will support the team in realizing several tasks all related to:
development, extension and robustification of (flow-based) market modeling frameworks, including:
critical analysis of grid data, e.g., PTDF, RAM, CNEC,
create automated or visual checks to assess quality and validity of input data,
improve the existing R/Python/VBA/Excel scripts used for model building, and
enhance code development tooling and processes, e.g., repo, CI.
research and development into novel approaches for market studies, and
execution of large-scale market dispatch studies, including:
cost-benefit analysis within the context of the Federal Development Plan, or for individual interconnections, and
flow-based market dispatch analysis within the context of the internal ‘Production Vector’ process.
Requirements:
Programming: R or Python (must-have)
R is currently the primary language used for statistical analysis and data processing within the team. It supports automation and replaces Excel/VBA in handling large datasets. Familiarity with R packages developed by RTE (e.g., for ANTARES) is a plus, for more info see: https://github.com/rte-antares-rpackage.
Python is increasingly adopted for new tool development. Its general-purpose nature and readability make it an asset for future projects.
Proficiency in at least one of these languages is required; experience with both is highly desirable.
Data Processing: Excel (must-have) & VBA (nice-to-have)
Excel is essential for data exploration, analysis, and interfacing with R/Python scripts. Many internal databases are maintained in Excel format.
VBA is occasionally used to enhance Excel functionality and automate workflows.
Economic Dispatch Software: ANTARES (nice-to-have)
ANTARES is an economic dispatch simulation tool developed by RTE, used to model electricity markets on an hourly basis, for more info see: https://antares-simulator.org/.
Experience with ANTARES, especially its input/output interface and data handling, is beneficial.
Familiarity with market simulation tools and large-scale data processing (10+ GB per simulation) is a plus.
Software Development Tools (nice-to-have)
Familiarity with version control systems, e.g., Git, is beneficial for collaborative development and code management.
Experience with IDE environments, e.g., RStudio, VSCode, and package management tools, e.g., pip, is a plus.
Understanding of software development best practices, including documentation, testing, and modular coding, is valued.
Other requirements:
approximately 3-5 yrs experience,
knowledge of and interest in the energy market,
able to work independently and in a team,
an analytical and innovative mind,
fluent in French or Dutch, and fluent in English,
passionate about the energy transition
interested to deliver high quality tools to improve the team’s functioning
looking to invest in a team on the medium term where you could face challenging projects and grow your expertise
