For one of our main clients based in Brussels - a European Institution, we are looking for a Cloud Engineers proactively for future incoming requests.
You must be accustomed to working in large-scale environments within a project management capacity, preferably in multicultural public sector environments.
The Cloud Engineer will or be involved in the design, governance, and oversight of the implementation of secure, scalable, and compliant cloud solutions supporting digital transformation initiatives within the European Commission.
The role often requires strong expertise in Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS), with deep understanding of EU security standards, interoperability frameworks, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, NIS2, EU Cybersecurity Act).
The architect will work closely with IT governance bodies, security officers, DevOps teams, and external contractors to ensure cloud solutions align with European public sector standards and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cloud Architecture & Design
Manage end-to-end cloud-native and hybrid architectures using Azure and/or AWS.
Involvement in implementing high-level and low-level cloud-related best practices
Designs, implements, and manages cloud-based systems (AWS, Azure, GCP), ensuring high performance, security, and scalability. They automate workflows using infrastructure as code (IaC), manage migrations, and optimize cloud cost.
Define scalable, resilient, and secure system architectures.
Support migration of legacy systems to cloud environments.
2. Security & Compliance
Ensure solutions comply with:
GDPR
EU Cybersecurity Act
NIS2 Directive
ISO 27001
EU Interoperability Framework (EIF)
Implement identity and access management (IAM), encryption, logging, and monitoring standards.
Work with security and risk management teams on cloud governance.
3. Governance & Cloud Strategy
Contribute to cloud governance frameworks and landing zone designs.
Support multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud strategies.
4. DevOps & Automation
Design CI/CD pipelines using:
Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions
AWS CodePipeline
Promote Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using:
Terraform
ARM / Bicep
AWS CloudFormation
Enable containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS, EKS).
5. Stakeholder Engagement
Act as technical advisor to EU institutional stakeholders.
Translate business requirements into cloud architecture designs.
Provide technical leadership to project teams.
Prepare technical documentation and presentations for governance boards
Job requirements
Junior: Master’s degree + 0 years of experience/ Bachelor’s degree + 2 years of experience/ Secondary school + 7 years of experience
Medior (“Normal”): Master’s degree + 5 years of experience / Bachelor’s degree + 7 years of experience/Secondary school + 12 years of experience
Experience in public sector or highly regulated environments (strong asset).
Relevant certifications such as: AWS, MS Azure specifically or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of GDPR and EU digital governance frameworks.
Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
Fluent English (French is an asset).
