Security Architect

Job description

During a long-term project in a European Institution in Brussels city center, you will be responsible for the middleware and infrastructure architecture and design (and related tests). The project is a large scale, cross European SOA secure interoperability framework with focus on design of the solutions, deployment (e.g. backup, technical monitoring, configuration, high availability and disaster recovery), end users features (e.g. reference applications, business activity monitoring). S/he is supervising the overall consistency of the IT architecture within the Architecture Office and guarantees that its design fulfils the related business requirements and vision. This position implies working directly with several stakeholders such as subcontractors, other teams, European Member States, or other DGs.


Your challenges:

  • Mastering, proposing architecture, design, (test) specifications and/or reviewing of proposals of architecture, design, (test) specifications; 

  • Evaluating technical offers of contractors; 

  • Investigating technical solutions proposed by contractors and/or recommending technical solutions and ensuring that the proposed systems, components and/or services' design is consistent with the overall architecture; 

  • Supervision of subcontractors, coordination with other teams or Member States (e.g. for the national deployments aspects or reference applications made available to MS); this may require preparation and run of slide shows, or organizing and chairing some meetings (e.g. workshop with MS, with end users and/or with the test & operations team);

  • Elaborate and design Security architecture; 

  • Apply industry standard and good practices, identify vulnerabilities of a proposed solution, propose improvements and new initiatives to improve the security model on application and infrastructure level;

  • Technical support, advice and consulting to operations, evolution and projects (e.g. analyzing or validating analysis of problems or requests for change);

  • Study (or manage the study of) adequacy and impact of new technology to our systems;

  • Support and Advice to project and programme managers on technological choices.


Your assets:


  • A master or bachelor degree in relevant studies;
  • At least 5 years' experience in a similar role;
  • Experience working for European Institutions;
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure equipment provisioning and configuration;
  • Knowledge of SOA, Oracle Service Bus, Weblogic application server;
  • Fluent knowledge of English, French would be a plus;


- Certifications of TOGAF and ISO27001 are mandatory;

- Certification of Oracle SOA/BPM suites are a plus.
