Senior AI/NLP/Machine Learning Expert (hybrid in Belgium) - EU Institution

For one of our main clients based in Brussels - an European Institution, we are looking for a Senior AI/NLP/Machine Learning Engineer to join our team in the area of legislation, policy and HR for different DGs of the EU Institutions’ network. In this regard, you will be part of the provision of corporate solutions, as an example: HR solutions - SYSPER, e-Sire, NDP; Financial rights solutions: NAP, Assmal2, MiPS, Sermed, PABS; Personal selection solutions: Talent Suite, Candidate portal; Document management solutions: ARES, HAN; Decision making process solutions: DECIDE, LEOS/EdiT, ECI, and others. The solution assignment may change over time, according to the portfolio/project/service needs. You will play a crucial role in supporting the innovation policies and decisions, enabling the successful implementation of the client's digital transformation and EU policies.

For the needs of the client, you must be based in Belgium and work on hybrid mode (office time 1-2 times per week) and have full rights to work in Belgium as a freelancer/contractor on B2B basis.

As AI/NLP/ML Expert, you will perform the following tasks:

• Development and maintenance of software applications in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML) and/or Artificial Intelligence (AI);

• Training of custom machine learning / deep learning models based on structured and unstructured data;

• Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques;

• Performing studies and developments aiming at improving the quality of machine translation (MT) engines for each installed language pair, addressing the specific needs of customers of the service concerning MT quality and contributing to a general strategy for the systematic evaluation and long-term improvement of MT quality;

• Interacting with data stewards and other IT stakeholders to define the data rules;

• Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis;

• Designing the IT architecture for solutions in the NLP / ML / AI fields, and coordinate its implementation considering master- and meta-data management concepts;

• Interacting with the business analysts, customer, users, project leaders and the developers.

Are we the perfect match?

• University degree (MSc/BSc)

• 10 years of experience with Python, and its NLP/ML libraries (SpaCy, NLTK, scikit-learn, pandas…)

• 8-10 years of experience in Machine Learning or Natural Language Processing (especially PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers)

• At least 3 years of experience with DevOps container or serverless /orchestration tools (ie: Docker, Ansible, Terrafom, buildpacks, Kubernetes, etc.)

• Knowledge of DevOps practices

• Knowledge of vector similarity search (ex: Annoy or Qdrant)

• Knowledge of async web service frameworks like Tornado

• Knowledge of query languages, such as SQL, Hive, Pig, etc and with information extraction

• Knowledge of NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase, etc.

• Knowledge of data visualisation tools, such as D3.js, GGplot, etc.

• Experience with alignment models and classification methods

• Experience with data analytics over big datasets, non-structured databases as well as data lakes

• Ability to give business and technical presentations

• Very good communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences

• Analysis and problem solving skills

• Capability to write clear and structured technical documents

• Ability to participate in technical meetings and good communication skills.

It will be nice if you have one of the following certifications:

• AWS Certified Machine Learning

• Microsoft Azure AI Engineer Associate

• SAS Certified Professional AI and Machine Learning Certification.
