Senior ETL Architect

Job description

As a Senior ETL Architect, you will be part of a dynamic team, based in the JRC campus in Ispra (Italy). The JRC campus is hosting a vibrant community of approximately 2.500 top-notch researchers, engineers and senior scientists, eager to resolve current and future challenges related to energy, nuclear safety, climate change and more.

 

THE PROJECT

Digital Transformation is taking place across all sectors to the economy and society with varying speed and impacts. The complexity of emerging interactions producing both opportunities and challenges are such that it is difficult to tackle all aspects at the same time. It is therefore necessary to identify priorities starting from the sectors where the JRC has stronger competences, and then gradually moving outwards to other sectors and partnerships. AI and Machine Learning are among the most important technologies increasingly transforming every aspect of society, and therefore deserve a particular focus within the broader DT processes. This workpackage will provide synthesis between the economic and social impacts in the labour market and society, and identify possible policy responses that are either cross-cutting or specific to each sector.

 

THE ROLE

The main objective of this position is the support of the project and the working team on the level of:

  • implementation of software models and algorithms for the computation of Digital Transformation Indicators;
  • design and implementation of data acquisition and analysis solutions;
  • definition of data and indicators visualization solutions;
  • management of user requirements;
  • design of an AI Observatory;
  • maintenance, operation and transfer of the existing platform

Requirements

MUST-HAVEs

The following expertise is required for this profile:

  • advanced software design skills: distributed and service oriented architecture, three tiers, application of design patterns, web and mobile applications;
  • good knowledge of data design from relational dataset to data marts, experience with big datasets, hosting and caching mechanisms;
  • strong knowledge of ETL architecture and techniques for data refinery, cleaning and traceability;
  • good analytical, organizational, technical documentation writing and reporting skills with knowledge of analytics and statistics concepts;
  • sound understanding of monitoring systems, proficiency education in environmental system management is an advantage;
  • sound experience with agile methodologies in the context of research and development with rapidly changing requirements and variable enabling technologies;
  • ability to integrate in international and multicultural environment with rapid self-starting and ability to participate in meetings by effectively communicating in English;

 SPECIFIC EXPERTISE

More specifically, the ideal candidate will have:

  • advanced experience with Pentaho Data Integration for multi-level transformations and jobs with heterogeneous data sources (remote RDBMS, CSV, JSON, XML, Access, Excel, Web services, etc.) with ability to embed into Cloudera Hadoop (HDFS, MapReduce, etc.);
  • sound experience with RDBMS (PostgreSQL/PostGIS, MySQL, Oracle), NoSQL, data modelling and performance tuning for analytical and geospatial queries;
  • good knowledge of GUI design principles, web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, OpenLayers, etc.) responsiveness, usability;
  • good experience in development of server side components/applications (Java, REST, APIs);
  • sound knowledge of data engineering, quality control and modelling tools;
  • Experience with quality control and issues reporting;
  • Professional training in quality systems management;
  • knowledge of Nextcloud API for user provisioning, file sharing and WebDAV;
  • basic knowledge of machine learning;
  • good knowledge of interoperability solutions for data and metadata; experience with data visualization solutions
  • Data Mining/Web scraping and Python

 NICE-TO-HAVEs

The following will be considered a big plus:

  • Experience with quality control and issues reporting;
  • Professional training in quality systems management;
  • knowledge of Nextcloud API for user provisioning, file sharing and WebDAV;
  • basic knowledge of machine learning;
  • good knowledge of interoperability solutions for data and metadata;
  • experience with data visualization solutions
